Developed by Jason Green and available for Microsoft’s Windows operating system, Network Notepad serves a precise function: to help you create interactive network diagrams. Several handy features are put at your disposal so that you can create and edit network diagrams as you see fit. For personal use, you can go with Network Notepad Freeware Edition; and for commercial purposes (and a bit of extra functionality) you can go with Network Notepad Professional Edition.

To get Network Notepad Professional Edition up and running on your Windows-powered machine (anything from Windows 2000 up to Windows 8), you will have to go through these simple steps: download an archive, extract and run the executable inside, follow the instructions presented by a setup wizard. You’ll be glad to know that the whole process will take little of your time.

When you launch Network Notepad for the first time, a demo file will be loaded. The diagrams included in this demo file will be presented on the main panel on the application’s interface. Down in the bottom left hand corner you will see buttons for switching between Physical, Logical, and Flow Chart. In the upper left hand corner you’ll see a traditional File Menu and a toolbar with buttons for various functions the application can perform. So overall, it is a simple interface layout that you will quickly get accustomed to.

From this user friendly interface you will have no problems accessing Network Notepad’s functionality. As mentioned above, the application puts several handy features at your disposal so you can create and edit diagrams. Here’s a closer look at the application’s main features: arrange elements as you see fit, numerous shapes to use, create custom shapes, zoom in and out, rotate, auto-align links, library search, print preview, export to bitmap graphics, undo/redo, bookmark diagram/object, insert text, grouping and locking, multi-page diagrams, and more.

You have a trial period of 30 days to uncover all the features Network Notepad Professional Edition puts at your disposal.

Network Notepad works as advertised – it is a great tool for creating and editing network diagrams.

Pros

There are two Network Notepad editions to choose from: a Freeware and a Professional edition. Installing Network Notepad Professional Edition takes little time and effort. There’s a handy demo file you can play with. Use Network Notepad to create and edit diagrams; several handy tools are put at your disposal so you can easily do this.
